“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

The liberal indoctrination begins in Pre-K

As I'm sure you've heard, Obama will be addressing all school children in their classrooms. Ostensibly, it's to encourage learning, determination, staying in school, making better grades, etc but, teachers across the country are receiving marching orders in advance of the speech...

...in advance of the address, the Department of Education has offered educators "classroom activities" to coincide with Obama's message.

Students in grades pre-K-6, for example, are encouraged to "write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals."

Teachers are also given guidance to tell students to "build background knowledge about the president of the United States by reading books about presidents and Barack Obama."

During the speech, "teachers can ask students to write down key ideas or phrases that are important or personally meaningful."

For grades 7-12, the Department of Education suggests teachers prepare by excerpting quotes from Obama's speeches on education for their students to contemplate -- and ask as questions such as "Why does President Obama want to speak with us today? How will he inspire us? How will he challenge us?"

The teachers' unions are in lock-step with Obama. This isn't a teachable moment, it's an indoctrination moment. If some kid is inspired to stay in school or make better grades, then good but, it's likely that teachers will use this to force students to pledge allegiance to Obama's goals for them and and country, to embrace Obama's ideas of collectivism and wealth spreading, and become even more glassy-eyed than they already are from environmental brain-washing.

I have a 15 year old sophomore. If he comes home with idiotic worksheets in which he must answer, "How will he inspire us?" and " How will he challenge us?", I swear my head's going to explode!

Here's how I'd answer how Obama inspires me....he inspires me to fight tooth and nail the coming collectivist nightmare he's envisioned for America, the nationalization of entire swaths of American private enterprise now under his control, the usurpation of powers that are not granted to the executive branch by the Constitution, and finally, I'm inspired to help kick out of office, any politician from national representative to local school boards, who support in any way, his deconstruction of America into a second-rate, nanny-State.

Yeah, I'd say I'm inspired!

So were you complaining when other presidents spoke to school kids (Reagan, Bush, Sr)? I was not (even though they clearly had an agenda as well) because I thought the overall message was positive. I am not liberal. I am not conservative. I am American (Army 3SFGA) and want what is best for my country (and world).
As far as extending the power of the executive branch while deconstructing America's world-class status: I think GW (and Cheney, Rumsfeld) did a lot more toward that than Obama has ever dreamed...point is, this "issue" is nothing to get worked up over. LONG-TERM control of the deficit, meaningful support of innovation in business and facilitating a globally supported effort toward eradicating terrorism should be our major concerns, not getting sidetracked with bogus concerns of indoctrination...
On a side-note:
"…because if you get your insight and political opinion from the mainstream media, you will be doing exactly what the terrorists want you to do."
Care to explain the above statement? I don’t get all my news from mainstream media (its frustrating trying to get good sources...) but what is the connection to terrorism? Sounds like a lot of rhetoric to me…In my experience, American mainstream media is largely supportive of our efforts to eradicate (or at least control) global terrorism. If anything it seems more important to reach out to small media groups to get the real story on terrorism issues (as in: groups real motivation, who is "winning" and the conditions on the ground). Your thoughts are welcome. Thanks.

@Jonathan, re: Obama's speech to kids, if you look at subsequent posts, I clarified my position to say that if he keeps the message pure and nonpoliticized, then I have no problem with his encouraging kids. He did amend his speech from overtly political to be neutral, once everybody complained, but only once they complained.

I am no fan of Bush. Other than killing terrorists, he was no better than democrats. Spent too much, NCLB is a disaster, the Patriot Act is too intrusive, started the idea of bailouts...his worst mistake in my opinion but, Obama followed through with seizing control of banking, mortgage, auto, etc and now healthcare. Far more than Bush ever did. Do you agree with the absurd notion of "too big to fail"? If you do, then you must love the idea of gov't run everything.

As far as my slogan goes, it more tongue-in-cheek than my literal idea although, the media's insistence on calling terrorists benign names like insurgents, freedom-fighters, disenfranchized youths, whatever, is beneficial to terrorists because it makes them seem less dangerous and threatening. I submit that the terrorists want Americans consuming news from the MSM because the MSM whitewashes and justifies their terrorist actions as police matters, isolated incidents, justified actions against their evil Jew opressors. So yes, if you get your only info from NBC, then you are doing exactly what the terrorists want you to do.
